Driver arrested after terrified witnesses call 999 over 'erratic' van on M66

A suspected drink driver was arrested after a van was seen being 'driven erratically' on the M66. Concerned witnesses called the police to report the incident along the motorway on Monday (May 6).

Greater Manchester Police said the driver was traced and brought to a stop by specialist Road Policing Unit Officers near Pilsworth.

The force said the driver provided a roadside breath reading of 153 - with the legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. GMP later shared a picture of the van alongside officers. In an update on social media, GMP Traffic posted: "Thank you to the members of the public who called us about this van being driven erratically on the M66. "Intercepted by RPU patrols at Pilsworth, the driver provided a roadside reading of 153!
