A dog had to be stretchered down from a mountain after his owners took him for a hike on the hottest day of the year. The golden retriever was taken for a walk in Glen River area of the Mournes Mountains, in Northern Ireland, on Monday as temperatures soared in to the mid 20Cs.
Whilst on the hillside, the pet started suffering from suspected heat exhaustion, with rescue volunteers thankfully able to reach the pet before his condition proved fatal After receiving a call for assistance just before 5pm, it took the 12-strong team three hours to get the dog down from the mountain to the family's car.
The pet was then rushed to the vets by his owners, the Mirror reports. A spokesperson for Mourne Mountain Rescue, said: "The dog was treated, packaged and evacuated by stretcher to team vehicle before transfer to Donard Park and owner's vehicle for onward transfer to a local vets.
Twelve members responded and stood down at 1943hrs."According to the RSPCA, more than a third of people wouldn’t know what action to take if their dog was showing signs of heatstroke.
