It sounds like there may be some big changes ahead for DC Comics fans. Following the news of Discovery’s $43 billion deal for WarnerMedia, the newly merged company is “exploring an overhaul of DC Entertainment,” multiple sources told Variety. Click inside to read more… It’s been revealed that execs have been “toying with the idea of turning DC into its own solidified content vertical,” according to the report.
This move could affect DC movie development, streaming series and the creative arm within DC to “maximize the value of the superhero stable — one often seen as punching up against Marvel.” The report also claims that candidates were vetted with experience in creating huge blockbusters, similar to Marvel’s Kevin Feige.
One candidate is reportedly Emma Watts, a former 20th Century Studios and Paramount exec, but it does not appear she’ll take the job.
Discovery insiders reportedly believe that although DC has achieved success with movies like Aquaman and The Batman, it “lacks a coherent creative and brand strategy,” and characters like Superman have been “left to languish and need to be revitalized.” There’s also some recent news about an upcoming DC Comics project.
