The Yorkshire town that hosted the Eurovision Song Contest after amazing Buck's Fizz win in 1981
msn.comEurovision Song Contest took place in our very own county of Yorkshire. In 1982, the 27th edition of the competition took place in Harrogate following the country's victory at the 1981 contest.
Buck's Fizz won it for us, with their classic "Making Your Mind Up". Organised by the BBC and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the venue for the contest was the Harrogate International Centre, now the Convention Centre.
The event took place on Saturday, April 24 and was hosted by English TV presenter and newsreader Jam Leeming. Eighteen countries were involved with the contest, with Greece not entering due to a scale-back of their broadcasters, and France losing the rights to participation. The title instead went to Germany with their song "Ein bißchen Frieden" performed by Nicole. This was the first time Germany had won since it began 27 years prior.
