Dan Casey claims he’s never seen a pitch as bad as Dundee’s last week - other than on his last trip there on the first day of the season.

Motherwell showed their steel to overcome the sodden Dens surface and a two goal deficit to snatch a massive 3-2 win that keeps their dream of sneaking into the top six alive. That teed up what Casey and his team mates hoped would be a three-way Saturday shoot out with today’s opponents Hibs and Dundee for the final spot in the top half of the Premiership table. But with the Taysiders’ clash against Rangers postponed for a second time on Wednesday due to Dens’ drookit surface they can’t be certain of success even if they win today. The Irishman wasn’t in the slightest surprised to see the midweek game fall foul of the weather after going through 90 odd minutes on the surface his own club had slammed as dangerous ahead of kick off last Saturday.Asked when he last played on a pitch as bad, Casey said: “I’m not even going to lie to you, the first game of the season against Dundee on that pitch as well.

Actually, I think it could have been worse that day.“It was just flooded. I'm not just saying that. That was probably a harder game to play in.

In fairness I've been very lucky in that the pitches I’ve played on have been very good. We’re lucky enough to have one of the best in the league.
