A dad was rushed for an emergency brain operation after having a “massive stroke” at the wheel in Dukinfield. Simon Hughes was driving his 12-year-old son Howard and a friend home from football practice when he became unwell at around 5pm on May 29.
The 57-year-old began suffering a stroke while driving along King Street – suddenly losing his ability to see. As the car veered out of control and Simon started driving on the wrong side of the road, Howard saw his father's face drooping and began to scream.
The car then smashed into some bollards, forcing it to a stop. Howard’s friend Harry, who was also in the car, jumped out and put the handbrake on before attempting to flag down passing drivers.
