Coupar Angus Town Hall is to remain closed until at least the end of October this year, according to Perth and Kinross Council.

The historic listed building closed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.However, thousands of pounds-worth of work had already been identified as being needed to allow the building to operate safely in future.A budget of £200,000 was agreed to carry out work required at the hall to facilitate its re-opening at a council committee meeting in November last year.This work includes essential window repairs and replacement, essential repairs to roof and rainwater goods, as well as the replacement of boiler plant and equipment and alterations to the heating system.A spokesperson for the local authority said: “During summer 2020, an assessment of the hall identified a need for essential repairs to the fabric of the building and a new heating system, to allow the facility to re-open safely.“A request for the required investment was considered and approved at the strategic policy and resources committee in November.“The funding will be available to invest during the 2022/23 financial year.“Consequently, and unfortunately, the hall will need to remain closed until the works are completed.”The spokesperson added: “The works required to Coupar Angus Town Hall to facilitate its re-opening include essential window repairs and replacement, essential repairs to roof and rainwater goods, replacement of boiler plant and equipment and alterations to the heating system.“The budget approved to complete the proposed essential maintenance works is £200,000, which is available from April 2022/23.“Detailed design works will commence from this date and submissions will be made for all statutory approvals to
