Commonwealth Games horror cycling crash sees race called off after fan injured by rider going over the barrier

Team England cyclist Matt Walls was involved in a shocking incident at the Commonwealth Games with the rider going over the barrier and into the crowd, leaving a fan injured.

The men's 15km scratch race qualifying was brought to an abrupt end following the crash which left a fan covered in blood while cyclist Matt Bostock was taken away on a stretcher.

The spectator was taken away in a wheelchair following the incident, while a young girl was also attended to by medics after receiving a cut on her arm.

Following the crash Walls could be seen wearing an oxygen mask as he prepared to leave in an ambulance. After the incident, Team England tweeted immediately following the distressing scenes during the Birmingham Commonwealth Games : "Thoughts are with all the riders involved in the crash in the velodrome." British cycling also offered an update: "Following a crash in the men's scratch, Matt Walls and Matt Bostock are being treated by medics before being taken to hospital for further treatment. "We send our best wishes to the riders and spectators involved in the incident, and will provide a further update when we can."Team Scotland 's Kyle Gordon was also involved in the race and was taken down during the incident.
