Clergyman from Lanarkshire ordained as ninth Bishop of Galloway

A priest from Wishaw has been ordained as the ninth Bishop of Galloway.Days before Christmas, it was announced that Pope Francis had nominated Fr Frank Dougan, a former pupil of both St Aidan’s primary and high schools in Wishaw.The Episcopal Ordination Mass of Fr Dougan as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Galloway took place on Saturday, March 9 at the parish of St Peter in Chains, Ardrossan.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía the Apostolic Nuncio was also present at both the ordination and the Mass of Reception, which took place the following day in St Margaret’s Cathedral in Ayr.Fr Dougan has a long-standing connection to the Galloway area, as his mother was from Ayr.Reacting to his appointment in December, Fr Dougan said; “I am humbled and more than a little bit nervous that Pope Francis has asked me to take on this office.“I feel confident however that I will not be alone in spreading the joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
