The cheapest supermarket for 2023 has been revealed, with one budget supermarket holding onto its crown. Aldi was crowned by Which?
as the cheapest supermarket of last year. The monthly comparison by the consumer watchdog looks at prices of groceries and everyday essentials, and found that the supermarket was the cheapest in December 2023, beating out its rivals by being up to £20 cheaper.
It means that Aldi held that title for 11 out of 12 months, making it the cheapest for the year.Aldi was only knocked off the top spot in the monthly comparison during 2023 in November, where it was narrowly beaten by its closest competitor Lidl.
The fellow budget store was found to be 17p cheaper than Aldi for a basket of 44 groceries. Known for its lower prices, Aldi's win makes it the third consecutive year in a row that it has been named the UK's cheapest supermarket.
