South Ayrshire Council has been awarded £10,000 to help arrange a family friendly cycling event later this year in Ayr.The local authority successfully applied for the funding to Cycling Scotland, who have announced that the area is one of four to receive cash.A council spokesperson said: “We have been granted £10,000 by Cycling Scotland to run an event called Pedal Ayr.“The event will hopefully take place this summer (restrictions permitting).“The aim of the event is to encourage more people to get on their bikes more often.”Other organisations who successfully applied were as follows: Banffshire Cycle Challenge, in Banff, by Rotary Club of Banff; The KPT Celebration of Cycling in Dumfriesshire by The Keir, Penpont and Tynron Development.
