Yossman New research shows that there is a significant crew shortage in unscripted TV.The most acute shortages are in production management and senior editorial roles while the hardest to recruit were production coordinators, production managers, editors and series producers.As well as “too few” production coordinators entering the unscripted TV sector, the report also found the industry is “haemorrhaging” experienced production managers.The report was undertaken by government-backed industry body ScreenSkills in order to support the new Unscripted TV Skills Fund, which was launched last year.Among the findings in the report were an acknowledgement of “particularly acute” skills shortages amid crew with mid-level experience, challenges in recruitment and retainment across “all genres, roles and production hubs” and shortages across all career levels, suggesting specifically a problem with retainment.

In the same week that Gov. Gavin Newsom dropped capacity limits, social distancing rules and most masking requirements across the state, the so-called Delta variant of Covid-19 increased nearly 30%. The state last week also declared Delta a “variant of concern” for the first time.

Disneyland opened the floodgates on Tuesday but it was not enough. On the first day of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s California reopening, the Anaheim park was allowed to return to full capacity and it was inundated with visitors.

“We are here,” announced Gov. Gavin Newsom from a stage at Universal Studios Hollywood, “[on] June 15, to turn the page, to move beyond capacity limits, to move beyond color coding, to move beyond social distancing and physical distancing and yes…move beyond wearing these masks.” He then quickly added, “Full disclosure: There are a few caveats and details in that respect, but we’ll get to those nuances in a moment.”

On Friday morning, California Governor Gavin Newsom promised he would be releasing “details of our efforts to wind down all these executive orders.” Several hours later, he did just that.
