Holidaymakers in Bulgaria have been warned of a recent spike in crime as security measures are heightened at a popular tourist hotspot.

The UK Foreign Office updated its travel guidance for Bulgaria on July 11, which includes warnings about crime, local laws and cultural differences.

The Bulgarian authorities have stepped up patrols in popular areas, including Sunny Beach, where scams and thefts are prevalent.

Whilst tourists have traditionally headed to Magaluf, Benidorm and Amsterdam for a cheap getaway with friends, raucous behaviour has seen the Spanish and the Dutch governments crack down on 'nuisance tourism'.
