Holiday chaos could continue as British Airways pilots are considering strike action. The pilots' union Balpa has called for a new pay deal and is now reportedly threatening a walkout after those calls were shot down by airline chiefs.
It comes as British Airways check-in and baggage staff have accepted a separate eight percent pay rise, putting an end to their threatened strike action this summer.
Following a temporary pay cut to curb job losses in 2020, pilots are now seeking increased pay with their union amid ongoing inflation and a rising cost of living, reports the Express.
Martin Chalk, Balpa general secretary, recently said: “We are in talks with British Airways and wish to persuade them that continuing deductions from our members’ pay is unwarranted."We should actually be talking about pay increases given the inflationary scenario.“Unless BA is prepared to walk with us down that road then we will have to consult with members to consider our next actions.” According to The Telegraph, British Airways chief executive Sean Doyle was warned during a meeting with pilot representatives last week that “only quantifiable actions would be acceptable”.
