The mother of a young boy mauled by an XL Bully dog said 'I wish it was me' after he was left with 'life-changing injuries.' The four-year-old continues to suffer 'both psychologically and physically' after being viciously attacked by the dog called Nola, a court heard.
The dog was staying at the then home of Stacey Smith, 32 when it savaged the boy, who cannot be named due to a court order, in the front garden of the house. In a moving victim impact statement read to Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, September 28, the boy's mum, who also can't be named, said her son "won't have a normal childhood" because of the attack.
The statement, which was read to the court by prosecuting barrister Helen Chenery, said: "He cries out in his sleep, 'Get the dog away from me'.
