It was very exciting,” Amanda recalled. “I met Lacey Chabert for the first time and Lindsay Lohan was in the room and Blake Lively was playing Karen, and then I was Regina.” “I flew home and they were like…’We think you’re more correct for Karen,’” Amanda added. “So I was like, ‘Oh god, OK, sure.’” Back in 2021, Mean Girls casting director Marci Liroff revealed that Blake was the top choice to play Karen, which ultimately went to Amanda. “We wanted Blake Lively, who hadn’t done The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants yet, for Karen,” Marci told Cosmopolitan UK. “She came down to the final tests but, at some point, some of the filmmakers said to keep looking.” Marci went on to share that it was producer Lorne Michaels who really pushed for Amanda to play Karen. “Amanda Seyfried had read for Regina and we really liked her,” Marci explained, “but then Lorne suggested, ‘Why don’t we make her Karen?’” It was recently announced that two of the original Mean Girls stars will be reprising their roles for the upcoming movie musical!
