A SURPRISE win for Michael Binnie at the Coogie Urquhart Snowman Rally has got the 2020 Scottish Rally Championship off to a great start.Living up to its name, with snow and ice on the stages, the Inverness-based rally challenged all the crews from the very beginning.Michael and co-driver Claire Mole in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 were seeded fifth at the start but overhauled favourites Jock Armstrong and Cameron Fair on the very last stage.The final 11.85-mile section saw Binnie put in the drive of his career to pull back a 17-second deficit to Armstrong’s Subaru Impreza and finish the rally 20 seconds in the lead.Delighted with his win, 27-year-old Michael said: “It will take a wee while to sink in.
