Households across Scotland may not get their bins emptied after council workers in nearly half of Scotland's local authorities voted to strike in a dispute over pay.
Unison waste, recycling and street cleaning staff in 14 councils overwhelmingly voted to walk out over what they called an inadequate pay offer.
The union said it has a mandate for strike action in Clackmannanshire, Dumfries & Galloway, East Ayrshire, East Lothian, East Renfrewshire, Fife, Glasgow and InverclydeIt also has mandates in Midlothian, North Lanarkshire, Perth & Kinross, South Lanarkshire, Stirling and West Lothian Council.
Local authority umbrella organisation Cosla has made a two-stage offer to the workers, which covers an 18-month period.This would give a 2.2 per cent increase for the first six months and an additional two per cent for the subsequent 12 months, ending in September next year.
