Tributes have been paid to a nurse and pub landlord who died after contracting coronavirus. Andy Collier, 53, ran The First and Last pub in Leigh with his wife Carol and also worked as a nurse practitioner at Hollins Park Hospital in Warrington.

He was admitted to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan after he became seriously ill on March 31, reports Nursing Times.

After testing positive for Covid-19, he died just over two weeks later on April 15 with his wife Carol by his side. Mr Collier was a father and also worked as a union rep for Unite.

He played rugby for Wigan Warriors and Leigh Centurions and was vice captian at Leigh Golf Club. Mr Collier’s manager Rob Kelly, ward manager for Marlowe Unit – a low-security mental health
