Kirsty Gilmour has officially qualified for the Paris Olympics this summer – and is already targeting what would be a fourth Olympic Games at Los Angeles in 2028.

But for now, the Bothwell 30-year-old is focusing on trying to improve her seeding chances at Paris 2024, having been officially confirmed as Team GB’s sole badminton singles representative last week.

That means doing well in competitions in Indonesia, before tackling the US Open in Fort Worth, Texas, from June 25 to 30. Thereafter, Gilmour says depending on the draw, the quarter-finals are a realistic target for her in Paris, with her new-found strategy of taking pressure off of herself.

That worked well in April when Gilmour won a silver medal at the European Championships in Germany, and reckons that tactic might work in France, too. “At this point, lets not take Los Angeles off the table,” said Gilmour. “Body-willing and brain-willing, I don’t see why not. “With the progress I’ve made in the last few months, even three tournaments back, I’ve managed to change technical things, tactical things, so the day I stop making progress, or when I feel that there’s no more progress to make, will be the day that I hang it up. “But every single day I’m still changing things, improving things, so I really don’t see why not.
