Ayr United unveil new community gym and meeting room plan for Somerset Park

Ayr United have unveiled ambitious plans to build a new gym, meeting room and first aid room at Somerset Park - which the community can tap into.The Honest Men hope to receive planning permission for the new feature at the ground, which would be based on the site of their current players' gym and hospital radio base.Ayr-based firm Denham Youd are the agents in the proposals and the applicant is David Smith, Ayr United’s Chairman.A description of the proposals, earmarked for the left hand side of the main stand and dubbed the Ayr United 'Community Corner,' states: “The project is to demolish an existing building on the site, which is to be replaced with a new larger, two storey building.“The new building will host facilities to be shared by the club and community.

At ground floor there is a gym, changing rooms and WC’s and a first aid room. At first floor there will be a large flexible space with a kitchen off it, a meeting room, office space and WCs.”The proposals are the latest in a series of bids by the club to make off-field improvements at Somerset Park.Back in 2021, the club unveiled plans to build new supporter facilities, including a social club, as part of what would become ‘The Somerset Hub,’ which also contained offices and a club shop.The Hub has since gone on to become a major success for the club.And last year Ayrshire Live told how the club unveiled plans to build a new North Stand, involving a mix of 700 seats and terracing under cover.

Also part of the project is a plush new hospitality suite, integrated within the structure, to cater for around 170 guests.Construction began in the summer and is expected to last 12 months.
