Andy Burnham vows to carry on fight to keep 1,000 train ticket offices open

In July the Greater Manchester Mayor said he was preparing to launch a legal action against the train operators' plans to try and halt the proposal.
He warned at the time: "If the Government and the rail industry get their way, it will erode what remains of public trust in travelling by train – and hasten Britain towards a faceless, soulless society." In Greater Manchester, ticket offices are set to close at about 50 stations- including Manchester Piccadilly, Stockport and Wigan North Western Now Mr Burnham and other Mayors have issued a joint statement following the end of a consultation on the plans. Together, we made them listen. “Our legal challenge resulted in the operators extending the consultation process, addressing unfair accessibility issues and producing Equality Impact Assessments which are vital in assessing the plans.
