A number of Lanarkshire venues prepare for popular Doors Open weekend

A mausoleum, vegetable factory, observatory and preserved gasworks are among the wide variety of Lanarkshire buildings which will welcome visitors during Doors Open weekend later this month.Venues across the county, including some not usually open to the public, will invite residents inside to see behind the scenes during the popular annual event which takes place across Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18.Organisers say it will allow people to “find out more about some of our fantastic buildings across Lanarkshire” as well as taking part in a range of special activities.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Albert Bartlett is conducting pre-booked tours of its Airdrie factory next Sunday, while there will also be special events at Bellshill fire station and Summerlee museum.

Open to visitors throughout the weekend will be North Lanarkshire churches Cairnlea, Gartcosh, Glenboig, Kilsyth Burns and Old parish, St Andrew’s United Free Church and St Mungo’s, as will the Motherwell headquarters
