It was a big year for women behind the camera. A new study from the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University has revealed that a record number of Hollywood films were directed by women in 2020.
RELATED: Director Patty Jenkins Talks Fighting For Better Pay On ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ According to Variety, the study found that 16 per cent of the 100 highest-grossing films of the year were helmed by women, up from 12 per cent in 2020.
In 2018, the number reached only a paltry 4 per cent. For the first time in the two decades since the study has been conducted, the group also tracked movies watched at home from March to December, coinciding with the closure of theatres amid the coronavirus pandemic.
