An apprentice was slapped with a fine worth almost two weeks' wages after 'accidentally' dropping a cigarette when it burnt her hand.

Megan Megson says she was given an on-the-spot £80 penalty despite offering to pick the litter up, HullLive reports. The 21-year-old, who earns £60 a week, admitted to dropping a cigarette butt in Hull city centre on Wednesday, October 20, when she was challenged by an enforcement officer.

But she says said she was left distraught after her offer to pick up the butt was refused and she was issued an on the spot fine.
