Wigan council wins '20-6' in high court case over Haigh Hall hotel, judge rules

For the latest news from in and around Wigan sign up to the MyWigan newsletter here Wigan council has won a high court battle against the hotel operator which it has been trying to kick out of the historic Haigh Hall for more than a year.

A high court judge has ruled the local authority was entitled to end the lease of the listed building in November 2019 and was not in breach of this agreement.

Judge David Hodge QC also concluded that Scullindale was in breach of the lease by failing to vacate the property in accordance with the terms agreed.

However, he dismissed some of the council's claims for compensation. The high court judge used sport references to explain his final judgement.
