Motor-racing’s Queen of the Nurburgring Sabine Schmitz has died aged 51. The racing driver had been diagnosed with with ‘an extremely persistent cancer’ in 2017 but didn’t announce her condition until July of last year.
Sabine had appeared Top Gear during the Jeremy Clarkson era which saw her race the host around the Nurburgring. Her first appearance was in 2004 where she was challenged with trying to beat Clarkson’s Jaguar S-Type Nurburgring lap in a Ford Transit van.
In a showcase of her skill, she came within 10 seconds of the sports car. The world-famous race-track is where Sabine had made her mark in the sport as she shot to fame as a ‘ring taxi’ driver.
