Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager.
Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.
After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.

It is a play within a play where lines become crossed and there is an overwhelming pantomime thrust.It takes a while to settle into what they are trying to achieve but if you abandon all preconceived ideas and enjoy the banging 90s tunes - who can resist a set involving Bon Jovi , the Backstreet Boys, Pink, Britney and Katy Perry among others - you can't help getting swept up in the vibrancy of the piece.However, great as the tunes are, there is a tendency to shoehorn too many in to the detriment of the plot.There are some outstanding ensemble numbers as well as talented singular performances.Former X Factor winner Matt Cardle as the Bard himself was a revelation.
His voice was never going to be in question with the pop tunes but his acting skills were far better than expected.Juliet was played by understudy Psalms-Nissi Myers-Reid who has a fabulous voice albeit it took a few songs before the noise boys got the sound mix right and prevented her having to shout her numbers above the musicians.Another powerful voice was Sandra Marvin as Nurse Angelique who has a delicious rich tone.But there were two outstanding performances - Jordan Broatch as May and Lara Denning as Shakespeare's long suffering wife Anne Hathaway - who according to this telling appears to be the real literary talent.Broatch's performance gave a nod to our gender-flowing era mirroring life in Regency times and his version of Britney's I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman was truly moving.
