A new coronavirus support centre and hotline have been set up for vulnerable people self-isolating without friends or family to help them.

From Monday the new Manchester council hub will coordinate food parcels, medicine and fuel top-up payments for people with no support network, as well as those who have been told by the NHS they are high-risk.

There will also be help for other groups of people including carers and care leavers. The hotline number - which will be open Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 5.30am - is 0800 234 6123 .

Council staff have been redeployed from other services to staff the new centre in the town hall extension off Albert Square, where initially their support will be focused on those believed to be in greatest need.
