The mega-money Rangers takeover plot by American consortium halted by 'most hated person in the UK' fear

Businessman Scott Galloway has revealed that he scrapped plans to make an approach to takeover Rangers because he didn't want to become 'the most hated person in the UK'.Back in 2021, rumours began to swirl online that the entrepreneur was keen on making a move to takeover the Scottish Premiership while Douglas Park was at the helm of the Glasgow giants - but a move didn't materialise for the American to takeover the helm at Ibrox.

But speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Galloway - who is now a Clinical Professor of marketing at the New York University Stern School of Business - has finally lifted the lid to Steven Bartlett about his plans to make a move the club.

Galloway made his money founded and selling several tech firms and also served on the board of directors of companies such as the New York Times and Urban Outfitters - and claims he rounded up a 14-man consortium to takeover Rangers.

However, the plan came to an abrupt halt after speaking to a close ally. While discussing potential purchases of clubs like Tottenham, he said: “I got together the wealthiest, most famous Scottish people in the US, about 14 of us, and said lets go buy Rangers FC - because it's a publicly traded company.
