More than £1m is spent on elected members' allowances in Salford every year. An independent remuneration panel makes recommendations on a basic allowance for all councillors as well as on special responsibility allowances.

At the moment, all 60 councillors in Salford are entitled to a basic allowance of around £11,000 a year, but those with special responsibilities are paid more.
