Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden has courageously discussed her cancer recovery process and her expected return to dancing on BBC Breakfast this morning (August 24).Welsh dance pro Amy joined Charlie Stayt and Rachel Burden on the show to talk about her new documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer And Me, scheduled for release on Monday, August 26.After seeing the "impact" of her previous Crohn's disease documentary, Amy was inspired to produce this intimate new project.

On the programme, she revealed her experiences, stating, "I saw firsthand the rewards from that and I guess had I not done my Crohn's documentary, I don't think I ever would have done this one, I wouldn't have had the confidence." She also added, "I guess I was trying to turn such a negative, difficult period of my life into some sort of positive and thinking, well, if I can raise awareness that checking yourself and early detection can save lives, it's so important, and if 10 people watch my documentary start checking themselves, I might save one life."BBC's Rachel Burden expressed how the documentary immediately impacted her, saying, "Well it'll be more than that, because straight away as I was watching it, I was checking myself immediately, it's almost an instinctive reaction, isn't it?".Despite the outpouring of support and feeling connected to an "online community" of women sharing her struggle, Amy acknowledged the journeys hardships.Charlie Stayt condemned the "disgusting" online abuse aimed at Amy, prompting her sincere reflections in her documentary.

She firmly stated: "It's not OK and there's no textbook on how to deal with any diagnosis, it doesn't have to be cancer or life in general.""You've got to do what's right for you.
