With Strictly Come Dancing’s 21st series just weeks away from hitting our screens, the long-running dance show is set to welcome its oldest ever contest, Angela Rippon.
The 78 year old broadcaster was just one of three stars announced to be taking part in the show, when The One Show revealed that Angela would be joining Sherlock star Amanda Abbington and Bad Education actor and singer Layton Williams.
The delighted star revealed she couldn’t wait to turn her hand to dancing after being a long term fan of the show. "Having been a fan of Strictly since day one, and as a former presenter of Come Dancing, this will be quite an adventure for me," Angela told fans.
She then continued: ”A scary one, considering I'm about to be 79. But I'm really looking forward to the challenge, and perhaps being able to learn to dance the Argentinian Tango!” Angela’s addition to the lineup now makes her the oldest contestant ever to take part in the show, but as evidenced by her previous long running career as a journalist, newsreader and writer, it’s clear she is more than prepared to take on the challenge!
