The SNP has demanded Rishi Sunak publishes his tax returns for the period he held a US Green card as pressure mounts on the Chancellor over his family's financial affairs.

Kirsten Oswald, the SNP's depute leader at Westminster, said it was "vital" to discover whether or not the Tory cabinet minister had avoided paying more tax in the UK.It emerged last week Akshata Murty, Sunak’s multi-millionaire wife, claims non-domicile status which allows her to save millions of pounds in tax on dividends collected from her family’s IT business empire.The Chancellor also held a US green card - allowing permanent residence in that country - until October last year.Sunak has accused his critics of running a "smear" campaign against him and has demanded an inquiry into who leaked details of his family's finances to the media.It was reported today the Chancellor's wife and their two daughters have now moved out of their official Downing Street residence and returned to their west London home.The decision has fuelled speculation that Suank could resign in a bid to protect his family's privacy.Oswald said: "Rishi Sunak's response to revelations that he held a US green card for a significant period of time when he was an MP and Chancellor raises more questions than answers."It is now vital for transparency and trust that the Chancellor publishes his tax returns over the period he held a US Green Card since he has been an MP to set out whether or not he avoided paying more tax in the UK."It is staggering that Mr Sunak is hammering ordinary families across the UK with tax hikes, refusing to tackle the Tory cost-of-living crisis, and gifting bankers with a £4 billion tax cut, all the while his billionaire family are saving millions through a
