ELDERLY fans of Sir Tom Jones are being forced to stand at his homecoming gig. They have been told they cannot bring chairs or picnic furniture to the open-air concert.

Around 7,000 fans are set to attend Wednesday’s gig in Rhyl, North Wales. The seafront spectacular is the only Welsh concert on 81-year-old Sir Tom’s tour for Surrounded by Time, his 41st studio album.

One ticketholder insisted: “I don’t see the problem with bringing my own camping chair. It’s health and safety gone mad.” Another reckoned: “I’m really looking forward to seeing Tom but it’s going to be a struggle standing up for the whole thing.” Promoters Orchard Live said the decision to ban chairs was made after a risk assessment.
