Simu Liu Recalls the Memorable Workout He Had with 'Arthur the King' Co-Star Mark Wahlberg

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday (May 31), the 33-year-old Marvel star spoke with guest host Leslie Jones about working with the Father Stu actor on the upcoming adventure film. Click inside to read more… The pair began the interview by talking about Simu‘s role in Shang-Chi, with the actor recalling some of the scariest stunts he did for the film. “First of all, going into a Marvel movie and being an action hero I was like, ‘Yeah I want to do my own stunts!’ And then I didn’t realize… It was like going to Disneyland.
They put you up on wires and they just fling you left and right,” he shared. Simu went on to discuss Arthur the King and revealed he had only worked out with Mark once while they were filming the movie together.
He explained that while he would often show up to set at 7 in the morning having woken up only minutes before, Mark was ready and raring to go due to his early morning workouts. “So I was like, ‘One time I gotta work out with you.’ So I show up and it was a late workout so it was like, 8 in the morning.
So I show up and I’m like, ‘I’m gonna put my best foot forward.’ ‘Cause I wanna show Mark Wahlberg that I can hang.” However, Mark ended up putting special bands on Simu that were designed to restrict the blood flow throughout his body. “I literally took the dumbbells and I was like this,” he continued, miming his inability to lift his arms up.
