Shoppers feeling the pinch every time they do a food shop could soon feel some of that pressure ease, with figures revealing a slight drop in the price of groceries since this time last year.
Online grocery prices were 1.2 per cent cheaper overall this February compared with a year earlier, the first such fall in food receipts for two and a half years.
The price of a weekly shop has not fallen since October 2021, according to figures tracking domestic groceries. Online grocery prices were up 0.1 per cent between January and February, although this compares to a 5.3 per cent increase seen between January and February last year.
In addition to food, pet products were also 0.5 per cent cheaper than a year ago, according to Adobe Analytics price tracking, based on online transactions.
