A Scots GP who was found guilty of abusing at least 48 women under his care faces having his MBE removed by the Queen. The Honours Forfeiture Committee have confirmed they are aware of Dr Krishna Singh’s criminal conviction, ahead of his sentencing later this month.

The watchdog will meet to discuss removing the 72-year-old’s Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, which he received in 2013 for services to healthcare.

They will then make their recommendation through the Prime Minister to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who has the sole authority to rescind an honour.

The committee automatically considers cases where a person has been found guilty of an offence which carries a sentence of more than three months in prison.Being struck off by regulatory authorities - especially those directly relevant to the granting of the honour - is also grounds for removal. If his honour is withdrawn, the shamed doctor will have to return his insignia medal to Buckingham Palace and can no longer use the prestigious title.A statement given to the Daily Record from the honours watchdog said: “I can confirm that the Forfeiture Committee is aware of this case.“It is the committee's policy to wait until all court proceedings have concluded before any case of this type is considered… any honours recipient sentenced to over three months imprisonment will automatically be considered for forfeiture.” Singh, from Airdrie, was found guilty of kissing, groping, carrying out inappropriate examinations and making sleazy comments towards his victims between 1983 and 2018.
