Ambitious plans to forge a new future for Shambellie House at New Abbey have taken a major step forward.The former mansion was Scotland’s National Museum of Costume for more than 30 years until it closed in 2013.The local community, through a new management board, is working to create alternative uses for the imposing building.Now that work has received a major boost with news that the board has secured a £62,048 grant to take the project forward.The Scottish Government award will fund the appointment of a project development manager for two years.Shambellie House Trust vice-chairman John Stewart, who is a descendant of the original Stewarts who created the property, welcomed the financial shot in the arm.He said: “We are grateful for the
