A Scots brain tumour survivor has told how his passion for piano helped to motivate him to fight back after surgery. Paul Murray credited listening to Frédéric Chopin’s Ballade Number 1 for restoring his memory as he lay partially paralysed in a hospital bed following the removal of his tumour.
Then 22, Paul spent three months in hospital playing the Ballade again and again on his iPod as he waited between further operations and therapy.
Aberdeen Live reports that Pail eventually recovered the use of most of his body but his right hand remained paralysed – a major problem for the aspiring pianist.
Ten years on, he has told how his passion for music helped him overcome the worst of adversity.He featured in a Channel 4 documentary detailing his fight to recovery through music titled ‘Chopin saved my life’.
