Scots are being urged to brace for more disruption this morning as more snow is on the way.After the first bout of the white stuff fell on Monday, resulting in "significant" disruption and school closures, a series of weather warnings for snow and ice are in place across the country until Thursday - with Tuesday's set to last until midnight tonight.Yesterday, the northeast saw thee "bulk of the snow" with 15cm fall on the ground at Aberdeen Airport by the evening.
While forecasters have not determined where the heaviest will fall today, both lower and higher grounds will see a significant dusting.Speaking on Tuesday's forecast, meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "Some uncertainty as to where we're going to see the heavier snow but there is the potential for lower levels to see in the excess of 10 cm and 20cm over higher ground, so some significant disruption is quite likely."The Met Office said freezing conditions are a result of a “cold plunge of Arctic air” currently moving southward across the country, making it 5C to 6C lower than usual for this time of year.
Mr Burkill added that Scotland runs the risk of falling into "negative double figures" on Wednesday. Met Office forecaster Craig Snell previously warned that the mercury could plummet as early as tonight. “In the early hours of the morning we’re looking at temperatures getting down to -12C in a few spots, Tuesday night possibly down to -15C.
