Ryan Tubridy has paid tribute to a close family friend who died from COVID at the weekend. The Late Late Show host said his close family friend was more than just a ‘statistic’.
He made the heartfelt point as the Department of Health announced 46 more people had died from the disease. Speaking on his morning radio show he said ‘that’s too many people’ to die in one day on a small island.
He then revealed a friend had lost his father to the disease on Sunday and was one of many families ‘bereft and grieving’ in the country today.
Ryan told his listeners: ‘A friend of ours lost his dad on Sunday. His dad’s name was Pat Sherry. ‘Pat Sherry was, like all the 45 other people, a good person, with a name and a face. ‘Pat Sherry wasn’t a statistic
