When Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took charge of Wrexham more than two years ago, their long-term ambition was clear. The Hollywood duo wanted to bring the Red Dragons back to a stature which was on a par with their proud history after 15 years in the doldrums of the National League.
May's promotion to League Two signified a shift in the right direction for the Red Dragons but on-pitch success was only part of the plan.
Speaking to supporters on a Zoom meeting as they outlined their plans back in 2020, Reynolds and McElhenney spoke fondly about the Racecourse Ground and how they hoped to bring about a return of international football.
They even included the objective in their Wrexham mission statement upon taking over. ALSO READ: Foster compares Wrexham to United on pre-season tour Under the heading 'hard promises', the statement read: "Explore the renovation of the Racecourse Ground and improve the venue for the club, for International matches and perhaps, the occasional Tom Jones gig." On Friday this aim became a reality.
