YouTube has suspended the monetisation of Russell Brand's channel amid allegations of rape and sexual assaul t against the comic.

The Google-owned company said the ban came after Brand had "violated our Creator Responsibility policy". The 48-year-old has been accused of rape, assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013, when he was at the height of his fame working for the BBC, Channel 4 and starring in Hollywood films.

But on Saturday the comedian took to refute the allegations about him after he received letters from the mainstream media and television company which he described as a "litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks”.Speaking on his channel, he said: "Now, this isn't the usual type of video we make on this channel where we critique, attack and undermine the news in all its corruption because in this story, I am the news.

I've received two extremely disturbing letters or a letter and an email. "One from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid stuff like community festival should be stopped, that I shouldn't be able to attack mainstream media narratives on this channel."But amidst this litany of astonishing rather baroque attacks, often very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.
