Diego Ramos Bechara editor Rotten Tomatoes, the industry’s largest film review aggregation site, has launched a new badge to honor fan-favorite films with a high score rating.

The new “Verified Hot” badge will complement the popular “Certified Fresh” Tomatometer badge. The latter is given to the highest praised films by critics, and the latest badge will be awarded to films with verified audience scores of 90% or higher. “On Rotten Tomatoes, fans love to consult our verified audience score, in addition to the Tomatometer critics’ score, when discovering new movies and deciding what they want to watch next,” said Amanda Norvell, SVP of direct-to-consumer services at the site’s owner Fandango. “With the addition of Verified Hot, we are excited to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the theatrical films that fans have unanimously embraced and have taken the time to share their incredible moviegoing experience.” Rotten Tomatoes is also celebrating the first films to receive the “Verified Hot” designation on the so-called Popcornmeter, which include some of the summer’s biggest releases like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Twisters,” “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “It Ends with Us” and “Inside Out 2.” The”Verified Hot” badge will be installed retroactively on over 200 films with a verified audience score of 90% or higher since the launch of Rotten Tomatoes’ verified audience ratings in May 2019. “Top Gun: Maverick” and “The Color Purple;” award-circuit favorites like “Parasite” and “Oppenheimer” and box office smashes liked “Dune: Part Two,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” all get the sticker.
