A species of wasp never before seen in the region has caused a buzz in Bury. The large-spurred digger was spotted by Lancashire Wildlife volunteer, Joe Holt, during a guided walk through Philips Park.
It was later confirmed as the elusive Nysson spinosus by experts Karen McCartney, a member of the Bees Wasps and Ants Recording Society, covering Greater Manchester, who was leading the walk, and Ben Hargreaves, Lancashire Wildlife Trust Plan Bee Project Officer.
