Barbados is seeking true independence from colonialism, as the country announced this week that Queen Elizabeth II will no longer be listed as their head of state. Sandra Mason, the governor-general of the Caribbean island, revealed the decision during the opening of the nation’s parliament this week. “The time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind,” she said. “Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State.
