But the film did not score a best picture nom.The streaming giant nearly triumphed with the Spanish-language film “Roma” (2018) from Alfonso Cuarón, snaring 10 noms, including best picture.
It won four trophies, and Cuarón became the first winner of best director for a non-English-language movie. But the black-and-white semi-autobiographical film lost best picture to the critically divisive “Green Book.” Assessing a road in which Campion’s film can lead its way to the best picture win, the phase two piece of the awards season would likely include Netflix highlighting all the achievements and records broken that would be made when rewarding its film.“Power of the Dog” director Jane Campion has already won an original screenplay Oscar (“The Piano,” 1993) and has become the first woman nominated twice for directing.
