Pubs and restaurants in Scotland will not be forced to close under new restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the Omicron variant.

The beleaguered hospitality sector will be allowed to continue trading - but it faces another drop-off in customer numbers after Nicola Sturgeon urged Scots to limit their socialising in the run-up to Christmas.

And businesses have been warned they must step-up their contact tracing efforts as well as stopping customers from crowding around entrances or bar areas.

The First Minister last week urged the public to cancel work Christmas parties - which saw businesses lose thousands in cancellations - and today she pleaded for people to only socialise in groups of up to three households.
