Hopes of football crowds returning to stadiums has been dealt a major blow after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced there will be no change to Covid restrictions in Scotland.Crowds have been restricted to just 500 since Boxing Day, and the Scottish Premiership brought its winter break forward by a week.It was hoped restrictions would be relaxed in time for the Premiership's resumption on January 17.But the spread of Omicron is still causing enough concern and it looks increasingly likely that games will be played in essentially empty stadiums when the top-flight season is restarted.Restrictions will be reviewed next week in what will be the last hope for Scottish football to return to anything like normal.Lower league clubs voted to press ahead without a break, with many clubs not really affected by the 500 cap. However, Championship and League One clubs are struggling in the middle of a financial climate that is already challenging.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
